Contact Uswhat is an Abdominal Aortic Ultrasound?
A noninvasive cardiac imaging procedure, an abdominal aortic ultrasound can detect and diagnose various heart and vascular conditions, including blood clots, narrowed vessels, and an aortic aneurysm, which occurs when the aorta widens and the vessel walls weaken, creating an aneurysm that can rupture and lead to a life-threatening event. The ultrasound uses high-frequency sound waves to display the aorta, the main blood vessel leading away from the heart. Our cardiac testing team at Bridgewater Primary Care & Cardiology utilizes the latest technology to accurately diagnose any irregularities and introduce treatment options, and we do it on-site for your convenience. What to Expect from an Abdominal Aortic Ultrasound
A typical ultrasound takes about 30 minutes to complete. The scan begins with you lying on your back on an examination table. A small amount of gel is applied to your abdomen while a handheld transducer will glide over your abdomen to create images of your vessels inside. After the abdominal ultrasound, you can return to your usual routine. Dr. Terzian will discuss your test results later and recommend more screenings or create a customized treatment plan for your condition. If a small aneurysm is detected, our team may recommend frequent screenings to monitor any growth. A large aneurysm will require a referral to a vascular surgeon for repair.

The Best Practice I've Ever Been To... Always Respectful And Never A Waiting Forever Too Be Seen In The Waiting Room...And Always The Best Care...
Dr. John and his care team is absolutely amazing. Dr. John listened to me and all of my concerns. He checked in with me and called me back when I had questions. He ran ALL the necessary tests to rule out different factors. He took his time and I’m forever grateful to him.
The doctor pays close attention to details in reference to the issues I was experiencing. I have had doctors the past that would ignore or completely dismiss the issues, this was a major positive experience with this doctor to say the least. As a matter of fact, I have told two different people about my experience with him. Thank you so much.

About UsAbdominal Aortic Ultrasound FAQs
Will I need someone to accompany me to the appointment?
For most patients, it is not necessary to have someone accompany you to an abdominal aortic ultrasound, as the procedure is noninvasive and does not require sedation. However, if you feel anxious about medical procedures or have difficulty moving around, you might consider asking a friend or family member to come with you for support. Additionally, if your healthcare provider has given specific instructions or if you have other health conditions, it may be helpful to have someone with you.
What should I wear to my abdominal aortic ultrasound appointment?
It's recommended to wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing to your abdominal aortic ultrasound appointment. This makes it easier for the technician to access your abdomen. You may be asked to wear a hospital gown during the procedure to ensure full access to the abdominal area. Avoid wearing jewelry or clothing with metal parts, as these can interfere with the ultrasound imaging.
What are the next steps if the ultrasound detects an abnormality?
If the abdominal aortic ultrasound detects an abnormality, your healthcare provider will discuss the findings with you and outline the next steps. This might involve further diagnostic testing, such as a CT scan or MRI, to get a more detailed view of the area. In some cases, you may be referred to a specialist, such as a vascular surgeon, for further evaluation and potential treatment. Early detection of issues like an abdominal aortic aneurysm is critical, so follow-up care will be tailored to your specific situation.
